Alright, tonight was track Tuesday and the team did ladders, a speed and pace training technique, which the team ran in the freezing cold. It was 44 degrees! More on that later. The team ran somewhere between 2.5 to 4 miles, depending on the wave. First they ran 400 meters at a 10K pace, so pretty fast. Second they ran 800 meters at a half marathon pace, a tad slower than the first lap. Third they ran 1200 meters at a marathon pace, a lot slower than the first lap at a comfortable level. I walked 2.5 miles along with my gimp friend Arianna with wave 1 and 2 hence "the team ran..."
Sigh, so my knee started to feel a tad funny after the first two laps of the warm up run. Just to be safe I stopped running and performed my dynamic stretches and walked the rest of the session. Arianna and I were extremely envious of everyone running on the track tonight. I soooo want to run but I can't. I want my knee to fully heal before heading out.
The little ache I feel during running is something I only feel during running. I don't feel it when I'm standing, walking or sitting, which is a good thing. I don't want to be in any more pain...actually I don't want to be in any pain. (It did hurt whenever I did any of those things the first couple of days after the injury occurred. I was limping for two days!) Again, when it starts to hurt I stop. I feel like I'm acting like a big baby about it all but I don't want to aggravate it so I'll keep with the walking for now. The only problem with walking is I don't get as warm as the runners and had to keep all three layers on. Yep, it was that cold folks. 44 degrees!
Running two laps I can feel how out of shape I am. I was breathing a bit hard and it's been two weeks since I last ran. I have to keep up my with my cardio so I've joined a gym to cycle and perhaps take a spin class. Fun fun.
Stay warm, wear a beanie and gloves on the trails!
